Gallery 53: Arts Annual Harvest- 97th Annual Fall Art Show Artist Entries

At Gallery 53

Description: Gallery 53's Annual Fall Art Show generally features an eclectic mix of subjects, media, and techniques from regional artists. Paintings, drawings, photographs, and digital compositions will be accepted. Entries will be judged by talented Connecticut artist Karen Israel. Eight cash prizes will be awarded.

The show will be on exhibit in the gallery through the month of October. Plus, artists have the option of being included in the online store, and social media. To be included in the online exhibit, store and social media, artists can submit their work digitally after delivering their physical pieces to the gallery (NOTE: Gallery 53 takes a 30% commission).

There will be a Racing class of 5 miles and a Recreation class of 2.5 miles.

Make a fabric masterpiece with Ice Dying! In this 2-session workshop, instructor Lynn Fisher will guide you through folding techniques and color selection to create a garment or piece of fabric with a vibrant, cloud-like watercolor look. See how easy it is to achieve the nuanced shading and unexpected effects that has made ice dying a popular sensation!

Participants should bring fabric or items made of natural fiber such as cotton, rayon, bamboo, or linen. Suitable items include clothing, "fat quarters" for quilting and pillow cases. Everything should be washed ahead of time with no fabric softeners or dryer sheets, to remove any chemicals that will interfere with the dye.

NOTE: Even if COVID restrictions are lifted regarding masks, participants should bring a face mask to wear as a precaution when working with the powdered dye.

WFC: The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour!

Description: Join us in support of the Women and Families Center (WFC) as we enjoy a great concert featuring The Doobie Brothers in the Earth Suite at the Mohegan Sun Arena. You will enjoy a private entrance to the Suite with plenty of seating overlooking the stage. The accommodations include private bathrooms and a cashbar right in the Earth Suite. Come support the Women and Families Center while you are enjoying the concert in the "Lap of Luxury" in the beautiful Earth Suite! Tickets are $100 and includes admission and d'oeurves from 6pm - 7pm.

If you are unable to attend please consider purchasing a ticket so we can send one of our program participants or dedicated volunteers .You can purchase a ticket for a survivor of sexual assault; one of the participants in our English as a Second Language or Workforce Education adult students; or a homeless youth. There are many ways to help the Women and Families Center it all starts by just clicking the Attend Event button!

The WFC mission is to promote equity and quality of life through services that foster empowerment and independence.

WFC provides outreach and transitional housing services for youth experiencing housing instability; crisis intervention and counseling services for sexual assault victims; enriched after school programming with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Art and Recreation; vocational training and job placement assistance for low income men, women and youth; and operates the 24 hour sexual assault hot line for Central Connecticut. About 3000 clients are served each year.
