"Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive."-Eliott Erwitt

Working in black and white forces the artist to focus on the essentials - composition, contrast, negative and positive space. Time and time again, we've seen this singular focus lead to exceptional works of art. That's why we're showcasing black and white work in our February art exhibit.

Ebony & Ivory Art Show is a themed show highlighting black and white works. Pieces may also incorporate a splash of color but should be predominantly black and white. Paintings, drawings, photographs, and digital compositions will be accepted. Four prizes will be awarded.

The Ebony & Ivory Art Show will be on exhibit in the gallery through the month of February. Artists can also submit their work digitally to be featured in the virtual exhibit, online store and social media.

Ebony & Ivory will be juried by Meriden-based artist Christine Ivers. Chris attained a BFA in painting and two dimensional design from Hartford Art School in 1973 and found work in the advertising field for the last 40 years. She has been Creative Director at numerous ad agencies and in 1986 broke off on her own to start her own company. She works with artists in that cross-over world of fine art and digital photography to teach them how to better promote themselves. After raising four daughters, Chris returned to her passion and works in pastels and oils. As a fine artist, Chris has won numerous awards, holds membership in multiple prestigious art societies, and has taught classes across the country.
