Guidance for Being Exposed to Someone with COVID-19

February 28, 2023

Have you been exposed to someone who has COVID-19? Quarantine is no longer recommended for those that have been exposed to COVID-19. Here is what you should do if you were exposed, regardless of vaccinations status or if you had a previous infection:

Immediately start wearing a mask as soon as you fins our you were exposed. Start counting from Day 1. (Day 0 is the day of your last exposure to someone with COVID-19. Day 1 is the first full day aftger your last exposure.)

You can still develop COVID-19 up to 10 days after you have been exposed. Do not go places where you are unable to wear a mask, including travel, and public transportation settings. Take extra precautions if you will be around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19.

Watch for symptoms such as fever (100.4 degrees F or greater), cough, shortness of breakt, or other COVID-19 symptoms. If you develop symptoms isolate immedately, get tested, and stay home until you know the result. If your test result is positive, follow the isolation recommendations.

Get tested at least 5 full days after your last exposure, even it you don't develop symptoms. If you already had COVID-19 within the past 90 days, see specific testing recommendations. If you test negative, continue taking precautions through day 10. If you test positive, isolate immediately. You can call the Public Health Educator at 203-630-4288 for guidance.
