ATTENTION WANNA-BE-EX-SMOKERS!

January 9, 2017

ATTENTION WANNA-BE-EX-SMOKERS! - Learn how to make your New Year's Resolution a Reality.

The Meriden Health Department hosts a weekly support group known as Tobacco Free Tuesdays. The program is designed to help anyone thinking about quitting, planning a quit attempt or striving to prevent a relapse. Research has proven that long term quit rates are 2 to 3 times greater when a quit plan includes a combination of counseling, group support and FDA approved tobacco cessation medications. The program is free and includes nicotine patches and lozenges for those who actively participate in the program. Funding is provided from the Connecticut Tobacco and Health Trust Fund and residents from Southington, Plainville and Wallingford are also welcome to attend.

TFT alumni who have quit smoking are often invited to celebrate their success and to share their quit stories with newcomers to the group. Participants will learn about medically approved methods of quitting, the proper use of medications, relaxation and stress reduction techniques, and strategies to cope with daily triggers and cravings without smoking. The use of the E-cigarette is NOT an evidence based method of quitting and the potential health risks are still unknown.

Meetings are held on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Health Department Clinic, located at 165 Miller Street. Group participants may also arrange for a series of personal coaching sessions with a certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist.

To register or to obtain more information about this FREE program call Geralyn Laut at 203-630-4003 or e-mail BeTobaccoFree@meridenct.gov.
