Congratulations to Alexander Zerio, son of City Council Majority Leader Steve Zerio, who also serves on the Chamber's Government & Business Development Committee. Alex, who recently graduated from Maloney High School, was among the 8 percent of applicants who were accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Applicants are required to be above -average students with exceptional Scholastic Assessment or American College test scores. Thorough medical and physical exams to assess agility, strength and endurance are also required. Then applicants must get a congressional nomination which Alex received from U.S. Senator Christopher J. Dodd. Steve and his wife Carrie are extremely proud of his son. What appealed to Alex was the prospect of a guaranteed job after graduation, a career for the next 30 or 40 years and the broad range of academic programs. He leaves on June 30th for basic training and will spend four years in the military academy.
