Michael S. Rohde has been named executive director ...

April 20, 2001

Michael S. Rohde has been named executive director of the Cove, a non-profit agency which provides support for children and their families when a parent or sibling has died. The six-year-old agency has seven locations statewide, but no central office. Mike will set up its headquarters in Meriden, along with a Cove center for children and their families. Mike worked for 28 years at the Curtis Home, where he was director of the children's program from 1972 to 1998. He was the director of community, corporate and government relations until last October, when his position was eliminated along with the chief executive officer and the director of development. At the time the home turned over its children' program to Hartford Health Care Corp, which owns Hartford Hospital and Meriden's MidState Medical Center. Mike was chosen as executive director because of his extensive experience and leadership serving vulnerable children and families, said Jim Emswiler, cofounder of the Cove. Mike doesn't begin his work until June, but has already arranged the Cove charity golf tournament scheduled for July. Mike also brings connection through the city and state to the job, which will include fund raising and community outreach.
