September 17, 2006

Meriden Center, a 130 bed Genesis HealthCareSM skilled nursing facility, announced today that they are nearing completion of part one of a two part renovation process that entails an excess one million dollars. Paramount to this make-over is the reaffirmation of a Center which is a JCAHO accredited care facility that has been part of the community for close to 40 years. The two-part transformation of Meriden Center is part of a multi-million dollar renovation and modernization effort of Genesis HealthCare's more than 200 centers in 12 Eastern states and the District of Columbia. Extensive renovations are being managed by Genesis Project Manager, Joe Civitarese. An interior designer consulted with Genesis representatives to coordinate cosmetic improvements as well as plan for equipment and accessibility features which would modernize the interior and exterior space of Meriden Center. Expanded, updated, and renovated space will feature: Refurbishing interiors, including updated carpets, draperies, furniture, lighting and other fixtures as well as repainting, wallpapering and flooring; Creating more intimate and home like resident lounges with new a decorating scheme; Enlarging nursing stations and incorporating new workstations; Renovating the exterior including a new roof, and landscaping.

The first part of the renovations are already underway and they are expected to be completed by late fall. The second phase will then begin, which will include complete renovations for the patient rooms from the floor to the ceiling. An Open House will be planned for the spring so that the community to experience first hand the newly designed Meriden Center as well as meet our warm, supportive team. "Genesis continues to look for and implement new ways to improve the nurturing environment and clinical services we provide for our short-stay patients and long-term residents," remarks Administrator, Linda Garcia. Garcia explains that residents will not only enjoy a beautified and re-energized environment, but she believes this modernized space will give them attention they need with the comforts of home. "But this renovation is about a lot more than new drapes and carpet. Meriden Center is already doing so many things right--we are proud that the renovations will enable our center staff to offer daily care to our patient community in an even warmer and more comfortable environment," explains Mrs. Garcia. From floor to ceiling, Meriden Center is keenly aware of Genesis' core commitments to clinical excellence and responsiveness to the individual needs of each resident they serve.
