Steam Trains Spring & Summer Highlights

In April the STEAM Train hosted 2 AI Skilling Workshops for our community. The first session was on April 6th at CT State Middlesex and the second was on April 27th at the Meriden Public Library.The participants delved into the basics of AI, with a focus on Microsoft Co-Pilot, prompt engineering and more! Omar Saucedo, a TechSpark mentor, was a guest during the first session, and Senator Matt Lesser stopped by during our second session to speak about the AI Bill being proposed in CT.
In total over 50 people were equipped with new AI skills.
The STEAM Team also hosted their annual Connect-In-Tech (CIT) Camp at CT State Middlesex. Students learned about engineering, computer hardware, soldering, how to refurbish a laptop and load it with Windows operating system, and more. By the end of the camp, the students were able to take home the laptops that they built. The students came from Hartford, East Hartford, New Haven, East Haven, Manchester, and Middletown. June 24th - 28th
Adventures in Learning STEM GEMS was a great success! Each day, campers explored different STEM disciplines through local community organizations. The camp concluded with a field trip to the Connecticut Science Center.
The 2024 Fast Track Academy cohort is actively completing their Microsoft LinkedIn Learning IT certifications. Additionally, some FTA students volunteered at CIT Camp. They're on course to graduate this fall.
In the spring, they wrapped up the STEAM Machine program at Spencer and Snow Elementary Schools, where students engaged in a variety of STEAM activities each week.
