The Center honored ten women as exemplary leaders in the community at their In The Company of Leaders luncheon at Aqua Turf on May 2nd. Author Laura Van Wormer was honored for her work in the Arts. Consultant Jean Handley was recognized as an advocate for business women's rights. The education award was granted to school superintendent Beth Ruocco. City employee Doreen Roddy was recognized for government service. Sharon Flanagan, General Manager and wine consultant of Valencia Liquors, was named for her company's contribution to non-profit organizations. Rosemarie Preneta, director of volunteers at Masonic Healthcare Center, was another honoree. Gail Millerick from MidState Medical Center, was given the community service award. Teacher Maria Gonzalez from Meriden- Wallingford Head Start was named the Outstanding Employee of the Year. The Outstanding Connecticut Woman in Leadership Award went to Barbara DeBaptiste, former chairwoman of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. Cathy Bysiewicz-Cluen was recognized as Volunteer of the Year.
