WFC Ladies of Liberty

Women and Families Center Sexual Assault Crisis Services offers a support group for Ladies of Liberty at Liberty Community Services in New Haven. Many of these women have been affected by violence and are working through addiction issues. Their lives have not always been easy. "We are women who have had many struggles. We come together for support and are free to talk about anything, but more importantly we support each other, and we want to give back."A few months ago, they wanted to know more about the role of victim advocates for sexual assault. They learned about hospital calls and how all advocates keep "care packages" containing clothing and other items, in their cars for the victims of sexual assault.
In a very generous heartfelt gesture, the women created lapghans (shawl sized afghans) that could be given to survivors while they are at the hospital. They want survivors to know that there are people out there who have been through the same thing, and that they are being thought of.
