WFC Open DOHR Prgram Kick Off

The Open D.O.H.R. Employment & Training Program kicked off the Spring session with a luncheon honoring the commitment of enrolled students pursuing training, language acquisition, computer skills and job skills development.Miguel Castro, City of Meriden Town Councilor, joined Open D.O.H.R. as a guest speaker to commend the goals set and the effort put forth by new and continuing students. He spoke to the advantages of completing a training and pursuing gainful employment while working to move beyond existing obstacles.
Irod Lee, MXCC Director of Academic Support Services, delivered meaningful insight into the world of post-secondary education and how to access specific services. Mr. Lee has been a constant support to our students in their transition from occupational training to college.
Alumni from past trainings (including Certified Nurse Aide, Human Service Assistant and Advanced ESL) spoke to their experiences as an Open D.O.H.R. student and how it has helped them to pursue and achieve their goals. They related to current students' obstacles and how they were able to surmount those hurdles by meeting with staff, attending class, reviewing their goals, and persevering to the end.
Both speakers, along with successful alumni, left students inspired and motivated to accomplish their own aspirations. We look forward to the Closing Ceremony honoring our 2014 graduates.
