Patricia Surprenant will replace Shane Rood as exe ...

Patricia Surprenant will replace Shane Rood as executive director of the Center. Shane retired recently after 16 years of service to her community. Ms. Surprenant formerly served as executive director at the Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse, Inc. She was a counselor in the Sexual Assault Crisis Service at the Waterbury YWCA in the 1970's. For four years she was Prevention Coordinator for the Wheeler Clinic in Plainville, and served twice as executive director of the Waterbury Youth Services Systems, Inc. and also in Torrington. Since 1994, she has been an independent consultant for the federal department of Housing and Urban Development. She also served as a member of the 5th Congressional District Advisory Committee of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. The Center administers the city chapter of the federal Head Start preschool program. It also offers other childcare services and Open DOHR, a job readiness and employment training program. It has 90 employees and a $ 2.5 million budget.
