New Groups Forming

July 29, 2012

Last spring, SACS entered into a partnership with the Yale Child Sexual Abuse Clinic (YSAC). YSAC provides comprehensive assessments of children who may have been sexually abused. Social workers interview children to obtain information regarding the sexual abuse allegation. Interviews are conducted in a room with a one-way mirror so that representatives from the Police Department and/or the Department of Children and Families can observe the interviews. During this time WFC SACS advocates provide support, advocacy, and education to non-offending caregivers. This partnership has grown into an ongoing Non-Offending Caregivers group.

Beginning in the fall, two additional new groups will be launched, "A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps" and "Beyond Trauma: A Healing Journey for Women".

A Woman's Way looks at the myriad of special issues recovery raises for women survivors - from questions about sexuality and relationships to essential topics such as powerlessness, spirituality, and trauma. A Woman's Way empowers women to take ownership of their recovery and to grow and flourish in sobriety.

Beyond Trauma places emphasis on developing coping skills, with specific exercises for developing emotional wellness. It also includes a psycho-educational component that teaches women about what trauma is, its process, and what impact it may have on the body.

For more information about these groups please contact Carissa at 203-235-9297, x.126 or cconway@womenfamilies.org
