Chamber Member Assisted Living Services, Inc. announces opening of new company

November 4, 2010

Ron and Sharon D'Aquila have owned and operated Assisted Living Services, Inc. since 1996. Based in Meriden with offices in Glastonbury and Clinton, the non-medical homecare company has grown to over 350 employees providing services to thousands of seniors throughout Connecticut.

However, they had a vision that they could do even more to help seniors or anyone living alone feel safe and help them age in place. After doing their research they are extremely pleased to announce that they have started a new "sister" business to Assisted Living Services, Inc.

Assisted Living Technologies, Inc. is the first and only business of its type in Connecticut. They install, service, and sell technologically advanced products which promote independence, safety, and improved quality of life for clients living in private homes or in community-based settings. Their product line will focus on keys issues effecting seniors such as: falls, nutrition, medication compliance, wandering, and mobility. Their products include sophisticated Wi Fi remote monitoring, Personal GPS Locators, and Automated Medication Dispensing Systems.

The company also did research on the concept that seniors do not like computers and technology and found that studies completely disprove that theory. They offer a service that is creative and unheard of: to provide in-home technical support and "friendly" visits to seniors in their home environment too.

? Teach them how to use Wii Sports such as Tennis, Bowling, Golf or Wii Brain games such as "The Price is Right." Actually they will do a telephone interview first to discuss all the options and tailor the visit appropriately. They bring everything necessary (equipment is small enough to bring in a shoebox), and can quickly hook up to most modern TV's. The rest of the visit will be so fun and new it will hardly feel therapeutic but it will bring a form of gentile, low impact exercise to people whose movement might be limited by injury, illness, or the aging process. Also, their memory games can have cognitive benefits.

? The company's Technical Specialists will work with seniors on their own computer, or they can bring a laptop, to teach them how to use such things as "Skype." This is easy to install, simple to operate, and a great way for seniors to avoid isolation and stay connected by video conferencing with friends and family anywhere in the world. Their Tech's can also show seniors the interesting world of easy and fun games to do on the internetthe possibilities are as endless as your feedback and our research on what else we can do to make a seniors day brighter!

They also offer the same technical support to facility settings, such as Assisted Living Communities, Senior Centers, and Independent Retirement Communities. Contact them today at 203-634-8668.
