The hospitals' highest honor, the Crystal Obelisk Award for community service, was recently granted to Al Cirillo, a Meriden resident who spends his retirement helping others. Al is 81 and the coordinator of the American Cancer Society's transportation in the area. He is a former president of the Meriden Kiwanis Club and governor of the New England Kiwanis foundation. He served on a committee which raised funds for the construction of a pediatric trauma unit for Tufts Medical Center in Boston. In 1992 he was recognized by the AARP Castle Craig chapter in Meriden with the AARP National Community Service Award. He has served on the Hospital's board of governors and the city's Crime Stoppers civilian board. He also served on the Housing Authority and the redevelopment agency. and was once a city alderman.
