MidState Medical Center offers complementary therapies: To heighten patient satisfaction and promote a healing environment of mind, body and spirit, volunteers are trained to administer techniques that would minimize pain and anxiety during their hospital stay. These are non-invasive methods of reducing stress, anxiety, muscle tension and pain and also encourages healing and promote wellness. Services are free and provided by well-trained MidState volunteers.

What is Soft Touch? MidState Medical Center provides Soft Touch relaxation rubs for patients. This is a free service provided by MidState volunteers who are trained by a certified massage therapist in the technique of therapeutic relaxation rubs. The volunteer provides these soothing relaxation rubs to patients' hands and feet. Research shows that Soft Touch aids in the healing process by increasing circulation, relieving a patient's anxiety, increasing endorphins, and just simply feels good! This program is rated extraordinarily high on patient satisfaction surveys.

What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction. It is a gentle relaxation technique used to relieve pain and muscle tension and heighten a sense of well being and energy. While the patient is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the volunteer's hands may be placed on the head, shoulders and upper chest, stomach, legs, and feet. The Reiki volunteers channel Universal Life Energy through their hands to the patient, activating the body's natural ability to heal it. It works where most needed by releasing blocked energy and recreating the body's natural state of balance, hence increasing wellness.

Pet Therapy - Trained Therapy Dogs provide a friendly visit to our patients. All are registered with a national Pet Therapy Organization and all have their Canine Good Citizen Award!

Music Therapy - Enjoy the quiet melodies of a flute, violin or harp that will make you relax and embark on a quiet journey to that special place in your mind. Volunteer musicians play instruments or sing in common areas at MidState.
