Executive Director Jack Brooks and his wife Barbar ...

July 18, 2001

Executive Director Jack Brooks and his wife Barbara serve on the American Red Cross' disaster team. This places them on call during 10 days each month. They are called to the scene of a disaster, which includes emergencies such as a flood, blizzard, or fire, and assist the victims in their needs for food, clothing and shelter. Volunteers must spend about 20 hours in training, be certified in CPR and first aid and attend classes on disaster services, damage assessment and shelter management. Jack is glad for the opportunity to serve the Red Cross and assist people in serious need through no fault of their own. Meriden Fire Marshall Robert Morpurgo praised the efforts of Mr. & Mrs. Brooks at the home on Cook Avenue stricken by fire. They knew everything that people needed and exerted a calming influence on the victims. Jack & Barbara plan to become national disaster volunteers when they retire.
