Thompson Candy Co., a 120 year old Meriden business, has recently opened a manufacturing & distribution facility in Fairfield, California. The move, which enables Thompson to expand its Asian and Australian markets, provides employment for 10 people, with the potential to increase the number to 100. Ben Adams, the CEO of Thompson's, maintains that the Meriden location will continue to employ 130 to 140 people as well as seasonal employees. He believes that the volume in Meriden will continue to grow. Proof of this optimism is the creation of a new position, Vice President of Technical Services and Development, to which Jesse Salafia was recently appointed. Mr. Salafia served as the project director for the construction of the new plant in California.
