Massive Vaccination Effort for Homeless to Begin Soon

February 2, 2021

Massive Vaccination Effort for Homeless to Begin Soon.

In just a matter of weeks, a massive effort to provide vaccinations for people experiencing homelessness and shelter staff will begin in partnership with the Community Health Center. People experiencing homelessness have been included in Phase 1B because many people who are homeless are older adults or have underlying medical conditions, putting them at greater risk for contracting a severe case of COVID. Also, being in a congregate site like a shelter, provides a higher risk for spreading the disease.

To date, the virus have been controlled within the homeless community because of the tremendous work of frontline staff, program leadership, and the Connecticut Department of Housing - all working together to the CDC guidelines are implemented.

The pandemic has driven home an important lesson: Housing is a public health issue. Everyone in our community benefits from a strong social safety net that includes emergency housing and rental housing that everyone can afford.
