In the 2001 New England Newspaper Advertising Executives Association awards competition, the local paper received four honors in the under 60,000 circulation class. The Record-Journal received first place in the "Telemarketing" category for the "Hey Kids" promotion in its Back to School section. Another first place was granted in the "Self Promotion" category for "Nobody Delivers Wallingford." In "Restaurants/Entertainment", a third place award was given for the "Pizza Page." Another third-place prize was given in the "Special Sections" category for the 16th edition of "Design An Ad", created by local students. Advertising Director Ray Roy is proud of the quality of work produced for the paper's customers and pleased at the recognition of both advertising and production staff.
