Charlie T. Murphy Jr. of Meriden was the grand prize winner in the paper's Summer Vacation Giveaway Contest, co-sponsored by Quinnipiac Valley Energy in Yalesville. Mr. Murphy won a new gas grill, valued at $ 600. Record-Journal subscribers were automatically entered into the contest when they went on vacation by designating their newspapers to be saved or donated to the Newspaper In Education Program. Mr. Murphy's winning entry was selected at random from all eligible participants.
