The newspaper recently hired two new staff writers and a photographer and transferred two writers to new assignments. Diahara Traore will accept coverage of Cheshire from Mark Peters, who now writes about Wallingford City Hall. Christopher M. Fortier is in charge of Southington police and fire affairs. Ethan D. Mitkowski will write about Wallingford education. Michelle McLoughlin recently received several awards from the Connecticut chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for her work at the newspaper. Several Connecticut college students will serve as interns at the newspaper this summer, including Deanna Chaparro and Jen Szymaszek of Meriden.
