Evening Classes Return to Middlesex Community College's Meriden Center

November 8, 2015

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (November 9, 2015) Middlesex Community College announced today that evening classes will be returning to the Meriden Center this spring on Mondays and Wednesdays to meet the needs of students.

Evening courses were removed from the fall schedule in an attempt to close the budget gap the College and the other Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System (CSCU) institutions are facing. In their place, Saturday morning classes were offered as an alternative for students who needed a flexible schedule around work and family life.

"We have been working closely with State Senator Danté Bartolomeo and the Board of Regents for Higher Education over the last several months to ensure that our students taking courses at the Meriden Center have the opportunities that align with their needs," said Dr. Anna Wasescha, president of Middlesex Community College. "We have made the decision to add an evening schedule to the Meriden Center with input from students and several community partners, including Senator Bartolomeo, Meriden Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Benigni, and Midstate Chamber of Commerce President Séan Moore."

"The College will continue to work with the Board of Regents and our community partners in both Meriden and Middletown to ensure that all students are receiving appropriate college services during this difficult budget time," added Dr. Wasescha.

"Middlesex Community College offers opportunities for Connecticut students and is a vital piece of the growing vibrancy of downtown Meriden," said Senator Danté Bartolomeo (D-Meriden), Senate Chair of the Higher Education Committee. "Since early this summer I have been working alongside Middlesex faculty and Board of Regents leadership as well as the other members of Meriden's legislative delegation to bring evening classes back to the Middlesex Meriden Center. I am very happy to announce that these courses will be returning in the spring, expanding educational opportunities to more students and securing the future of Middlesex Community College in Meriden."

The Meriden Center, located at 55 West Main Street, is a fully accredited instructional site for Middlesex Community College, offering a high level of student services and activities, a wide selection of credit and non-credit courses, and a modern and recently expanded facility.

Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College (mxcc.edu) is part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System. In all it does, Middlesex Community College strives to be the college of its community. By providing high quality, affordable, and accessible education to a diverse population, the college enhances the strengths of individuals through degree, certificate, and lifelong learning programs that lead to university transfer, employment, and an enriched awareness of our shared responsibilities as global citizens. MxCC, recently named a "Great College to Work For" by "The Chronicle of Higher Education," offers more than 50 degree or certificate programs at the main 38-acre campus in Middletown, the downtown Meriden Center, the shoreline, and online. # # #
