Ion Bank Foundation awards $152,000 for COVID-19 Relief

Naugatuck, CT - April 29, 2020 - The Ion Bank Foundation reported that an emergency meeting was called to order to discuss the increase in demand for support related to the corona virus. "As a mutual bank, with no shareholders, we are owned by our customers and our primary mission, for 150 years has been to serve our communities. When things are at their worst, we have an obligation to step up and help our communities. It's who we are."

Julie Loughran, President & CEO of Connecticut Community Foundation, Kristen Jacoby, President of United Way of Greater Waterbury, and Lisa Shappy, Executive Director of United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls attended the meeting to provide the IBF Board with a summary of the immediate and potential needs. The COVID-19 relief funds, established by the United Ways and CCF were described in detail. The Ion Bank Foundation has awarded $152,000 for COVID-19 Relief to area United Ways. The recipients were United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc., United Way of Greater New Haven, United Way of Greater Waterbury, United Way of Meriden & Wallingford Connecticut, and United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls.

David J. Rotatori, President and CEO of Ion Bank and Ion Bank Foundation said, "Our employees and foundation contribute annually to these United Ways. When we learned they had set up COVID-19 relief funds to help, we reached out to some of the agency leaders. We wanted to help and realized the United Ways are the best way to get funds into those most in need quickly and where our contributions can make an impact in the communities we serve." The Ion Bank Foundation, which awarded over $650,000 in grants during 2019, has gifted $8 million in donations since it was established in 1998.
