Newest Family Health & Wellness Center Is Now Open!

July 20, 2021

Elected officials, community leaders, donors, funders, and friends gathered on July 6 for a ribbon-cutting and reception to celebrate the opening of Wheeler's new, expanded community health center at 40 Hart Street, New Britain. The event also marked the launch of a new on-site Genoa Healthcare pharmacy, the fourth inside a Wheeler community health center and the 16th Genoa location in Connecticut.

Wheeler's New Britain community health center, as well as its community justice, and intervention services, moved to Hart Street on June 21, 2021, from 75 North Mountain Road.

"We are delighted to build on our long history of serving individuals and families in this city since 1991 by offering a broadened continuum of accessible, high-quality integrated care services in one convenient place," said Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, Wheeler president and chief executive officer. "Our staff, trustees, donors, and community partners have worked tirelessly to make sure that Hart Street is the most dignified, welcoming, and caring environment for everyone we serve in the New Britain community."

Wheeler and Genoa leaders were joined by US Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-5); Erin Stewart, Mayor of the City of New Britain; State Representative Robert "Bobby" Sanchez (D-25), and Connecticut Department of Children and Families Commissioner Vannessa Dorantes, LMSW, for the ribbon-cutting and tours of the facility.

"We are looking forward to providing a higher level of pharmacy for the community at Wheeler," said Iman Badawy, Genoa director of operations for Connecticut. "Experience shows that integrated pharmacies eliminate barriers that may prevent consumers from filling their medications. This means our consumers are more likely to stay on their medication plans and stay healthier."

The Family Health & Wellness Center in New Britain is one of five Wheeler community health centers. Other facilities are located in Bristol, Hartford, Plainville, and Waterbury. As a federally qualified health center, Wheeler is part of a network of community health centers nationwide that provide affordable, accessible health care for more than 29 million Americans.
