HUBCAP Wallingford News

February 5, 2020

Dear Community Partner,

We hope that you will consider volunteering with us this April at our district Career Fair. On April 21st, 2020 Grades 5,7, and 9 from across the district will be transported to the Toyota Oakdale Theater and will be learning about careers. That's over 1200 students!

Students from the Wallingford High Schools, Middle Schools and Elementary Schools will each participate at their own specified time. We are in need of many different professionals to participate in this day and share information about their career with our students.

Please forward this invitation along to spread the word with your organization and with your friends and family. We are going to need A LOT of volunteers and want to have an even number of representatives from each of the following career pathways: Art and Communication, Business and Entrepreneurism, Engineering and Technology, Government and Human Services, Science and Health.

Please take a few minutes to complete this form to RSVP and to let us know other ways you may be willing to assist us in educating our students about the different career opportunities that await them. Thank you for your support.

About the day: You will be asked to speak to groups of students in different formats in consideration to the age of the children at the given time. You will be asked what you do, what you like about your job, and how you got to where you are (more details about that below). We will also ask that volunteers bring representative props, banners, etc. to decorate their table. The day will run from approximately 7:30am-2:00pm. Please indicate your willingness to participate in this event by filling out the Google form above.

**We may get in touch to let you know that we already have someone of your career signed up and do not need you after all. Please understand that we need around 60 volunteers, each with a different career, and we thank you very much for volunteering.

We will ask volunteers to talk about: A day in the life. What do you love about your career? What skills are required that a student could work on in High School to move them towards this field? What post high school education or experience is required to enter this field? What was your path to this career? What are some other ways you could get there? What are other industries someone in your field could work

Rough schedule for the day: 7:30-8am Set up 8am-9:30am 9th grade-High Schools 10am-11:30am 7th grade-Middle Schools 11:30am-12pm Lunch for volunteers 12pm-1:30pm 5th grade-Elementary Schools 1:30-2pm Clean up

Thank you very much for your commitment to the students of Wallingford. Many of you are already involved in different ways and we hope you will continue your work with us. For those of you who will be new, we are excited to have you.
