For nearly the past 25 years, the name of Rob Szymaszek has been intertwined with Maloney football --- an era which is about to come to an end. Mr. Szymaszek recently submitted his resignation as Spartan football coach as a condition of his promotion to guidance department director at the Gravel Street high school. Mr. Szymaszek guided the Spartans to the state playoffs in 1989 and 1998. With the retirement of Bernard Konicki as guidance director, Mr. Szymaszek, a career guidance counselor who holds a dual master's degrees in health and counseling and a 6-th-year degree in administration, is expected to be appointed director. Mr. Szymaszek noted that, with all the time he spent on football, he can now channel his time and energy into this new opportunity.
