An Ounce of Prevention

August 14, 2011

The recommended and scientifically proven method to prevent algae in a pool is to employ a regular maintenance program of using a sanitizer, proper water balance, an EPA-registered algaecide and shock to oxidize impurities in the water. Circulation and filtration are important as well. Inspect equipment to ensure it is in working order. Brush pool walls and clean your filter. This is a good housekeeping practice. During extreme heat time clocks need to be adjusted by adding more filtration time. If a pool owner follows a "Routine Maintenance Program", it will prevent algae from forming.
