Connex Celebrates 85 Years of Growth and Service to the Community

Originally chartered as the credit union for employees and families of Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET) in the greater New Haven area, Connex has grown significantly over the past eight decades. In June of 2003, the organization officially changed its name to Connex, reflecting the conversion to a community-based, state-chartered credit union. The name change made it clear to Connecticut residents that they no longer had to be employed by SNET to become a member.

Today, Connex serves over 70,000 members and has proudly achieved a milestone of over $1 billion in assets. This growth is a testament to the trust and loyalty of its members, as well as the credit union's dedication to delivering quality financial solutions and personalized service.

"It's incredible to think that we are celebrating our 85th anniversary this year— - milestone that fills me with immense pride," said Frank Mancini, President and Chief Executive Officer, Connex. "When Connex was founded in 1940 as the New Haven Telephone Employees Federal Credit Union, I doubt the ten original employees could have envisioned the company growing to serve over 70,000 members with more than $1 billion in assets. Yet, even as we've grown, our commitment remains the same as it was 85 years ago: Improving the financial well-being of our members, employees, and the communities we serve."

As Connex celebrates this milestone, the credit union is embracing the future of banking with significant investments in technology and innovation. A new core processing system, launched in October 2024, is paving the way for enhanced services and greater efficiency. This new core system has enabled Connex to roll out new and improved online features, such as Debit Card Lock and Digital Cards, and will allow the credit union to implement various other online features in the future, providing members with even more convenient and secure ways to manage their finances.

Connex remains deeply committed to the credit union philosophy of people helping people. Over the years, the credit union has been an active and engaged member of the community, establishing ConnexCares, operating exclusively for charitable purposes in accordance with Section 501 c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. ConnexCares seeks to address community needs by promoting financial literacy, engaging in related philanthropic activities, and providing grant funds to eligible organizations.
