Condolences are being sent to the family of Stanle ...

January 19, 2001

Condolences are being sent to the family of Stanley Hancock, who passed away recently. Stanley was a graduate of the University of Connecticut College of Pharmacy and served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Tokyo from 1956 to 1958. He was the founder of Hancock's Pharmacy, which began as a smaller store on the corner of East Main Street and Sunset Avenue in 1959. Five years later, he moved to his current location at the corner of East Main and Gravel Streets. Hancock's began with one delivery vehicle; today it has 11 and runs a 24--hour delivery service. Sam Kalmanowitz, owner of Kaye's Pharmacy in Meriden, knew Stanley for 38 years and often sought his advice as a pharmacology student. Sam praises Stanley as being very fair, efficient and caring for his customers. Stanley was active in his community, having been a member of many organizations and recipient of several service awards. Meriden Mayor Joe Marinan officially proclaimed July 22, 1995 as "Stanley and Lorraine Hancock Day" in tribute to the fine contributions given by them to their community. Stan's family is determined to continue running the business, under the direction of his son Greg.
