Our Exclusive House Beer Released Today!

July 21, 2020

Almost a decade ago in 2012, we dedicated our craft beer list to Connecticut brewed beer. Through that time, we've been lucky to call many of the people behind these beers friends, as well as colleagues. One of those is Kent Falls Brewing Co. and owner Barry Labendz. About a year ago, we began talks of brewing a house beer to serve exclusively at Westbrook Lobster. We had a short list of "dream breweries" to brew this beer. Kent Falls Brewing was at the top of that list. Not only is Kent Falls one of the most prestigious breweries in the state, but also Westbrook Lobster was one of the first four restaurants to pour their beer and we have had a dedicated tap line for them for over 5 years. Thus, we approached Barry with the idea of Kent Falls brewing a Westbrook Lobster house beer. That idea has now become a reality. We are ecstatic to present to you: Living Like Larry.

We used 100% northeast American malt grown locally from Mosher Farm in Bouckeville, NY, Valley Malt in Hadley MA, and Thrall Family Malt in CT with Czech Saaz and German Perle hops. This unique pilsner is light, crisp, and citrusy, but also has a solid pilsner hop presence designed to pair perfectly with the buttery richness in our lobster rolls.

The urban dictionary defines "Living Like Larry" as living your best life; living like you've never lived before because you only live once so if your going to do anything, do it like Larry. The origin of the phrase "Living Like Larry" is derived from an episode of Spongebob Squarepants titled "A Life In A Day". In this episode, Spongebob and his best friend Patrick decide to try to live like Larry the Lobster. They decide that "Living Like Larry" means living in the moment and ignoring all reason. Larry realizes that Spongebob and Patrick are hurting themselves to be like him so he better explains the concept of "Living Like Larry" as living life to the fullest (while not maiming yourselves in the process).

Larry also happens to be the name of our dad, which the beer is named after. Larry has spent many years putting his heart and soul into Westbrook Lobster from its beginnings as a seafood market & wholesaler to the award-winning restaurants they are today. Through his tenure, he has taught us everything he knows about business, life, family, and the delicate balance of each. Today, as we manage the day-to-day operations of Westbrook Lobster, Larry is the true personification of the phrase "Living Like Larry" as he genuinely enjoys living his life to the fullest with his wife, grandchildren, and family. He is the true inspiration behind Living Like Larry and this beer is dedicated to him.

Living Like Larry is now available on draft at both locations.

Cheers to Larry and we hope you enjoy "Living Like Larry"
