The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce extends deepest sympathy to the family and associates of Jim Carabetta, who passed away in August. He was characterized as optimistic and a lover of music, nature and sports. His enthusiasm for hiking was shared by his friend Gary Vernon, who recalled an essay written by Jim at age 43 which referred to a place where he played and hiked when he was 10 years old. He urged the Trust to guard the wooded area well because his 10-year-old heart lived there still. Jim was constantly thinking of others, assisting neighbors, coaching softball and teaching musical instruments at the JC Music School. He is fondly remembered by many area residents including City Council member Matt Dominello and Connecticut Representative Jim Abrams.
