Wells Fargo, Wachovia combine community banking operations in 74 stores across Connecticut

March 14, 2011

Wachovia banking locations across Connecticut became Wells Fargo stores over the past weekend as a result of the largest bank merger in U.S. history. More than 381,000 Connecticut customers can now take advantage of 74 Wells Fargo stores and 99 ATMs across the state, with added products and services and continued support to local communities.

Wachovia banking locations also became Wells Fargo stores in New York this past weekend, with Pennsylvania to follow in April. Wachovia banking locations will transition to Wells Fargo stores in other eastern states throughout 2011.

"We're proud that Wells Fargo has officially arrived in Connecticut, and we are eager to continue offering our customers outstanding service and even more products to help them succeed financially," said Michelle Lee, Wells Fargo's Northeast regional president for New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

"Our team members have been planning and working for nearly two years to ensure a smooth transition. I thank them and our customers, who continue to trust us with their business," said Joe Kirk, Wells Fargo's New York and Connecticut regional president.

Already the change to Wells Fargo has brought new benefits to Connecticut: Wells Fargo has added over 100 new jobs across the state, most in community banking; customers now have expanded choices in checking and savings and other products ranging from renters and auto insurance to identity theft prevention; and environmentally green ATMs have been installed that accept stacks of cash or checks without needing paper envelopes or deposit slips.

In addition, all banking stores in Connecticut have been remodeled to the Wells Fargo open layout floor plan to improve the customer experience and to help the environment by using green materials and systems where possible.

Important customer information - To ensure a smooth transition, customers can continue to use their existing Wachovia checks and deposit slips until they run out, and they can use the same debit card until it expires or they receive a new one.

Local communities and non-profit groups are also benefiting from the changeover to Wells Fargo. The company will be announcing several charitable contributions in the coming weeks.

The origins of the Connecticut changeover began on Dec. 31, 2008, when Wachovia Corporation merged with Wells Fargo & Company. Since then, Wells Fargo has converted Wachovia operations in the West, Midwest, a portion of the South, Delaware and New Jersey. Throughout 2011, the company will convert Wachovia operations in Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
