Energize CT Sponsors Accepting Applications for Community Partnership Initiative

January 17, 2023

The Energize Connecticut Community Partnership Initiative, offered by its Sponsors Eversource and United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas, subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc., today announced it's now accepting applications for its second round of funding supporting energy efficiency outreach in Connecticut co

The Community Partnership Initiative assists community-based and nonprofit organizations in their efforts to raise awareness and educate residents about the many Energize CT energy efficiency programs, including Home Energy Solutions, Small Business Energy Advantage, income-eligible customer heat pump adoption, the Multifamily Initiative and residential demand response.

"The Community Partnership Initiative is a unique opportunity for participants to help bring energy efficiency opportunities to their communities and inspire residents and business owners to take advantage of these great programs, especially now as we're coping with historically high energy costs," said Eversource Executive Vice President of Customer Experience and Energy Strategy, Penni Conner. "It really is a win-win for all involved as the partnership supports local non-profits while bolstering participation in the beneficial energy efficiency programs that can help customers lower their energy usage year-round."

In an effort to make energy efficiency affordable and accessible to all, the partnership works with both municipality-affiliated community outreach groups, such as energy task forces and energy commissions, and unaffiliated groups like houses of worship, civic organizations, environmental groups, and business organizations to reach customers who can benefit from participating in energy efficiency programs. Eligible groups are either doing work or located in a Connecticut Distressed Municipality as defined by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. Additionally, Connecticut municipalities containing Environmental Justice Census Block Groups within their boundaries as determined by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are eligible to participate as well.

In Round 1, nine projects were implemented in eight communities: Bethel, Branford, Hamden, Middletown, New London, Waterbury, West Hartford and Wilton. The participating groups saw participation increase in their target energy efficiency programs thanks to their Community Partnership Initiative projects.

"By building strong community partnerships and supporting the work of local nonprofits, environmental groups, civic organizations, and other businesses, we've found a tremendous opportunity to expand our reach and better inform residents of the programs available to them to increase their energy efficiency and save money on their bills," said Frank Reynolds, President and CEO of CNG, SCG and UI. "As we approach this next round, we look forward to building on already strong partnerships and creating new ones to advance our work in the community to increase equity and access to these valuable programs, positioning more residents to secure these important, cost-saving benefits."

To apply for this funding opportunity, applicants must outline specific outreach goals and explain how they plan to connect with their local communities through the Community Partnership Initiative. In addition to monetary support, selected participants will receive training on energy efficiency programs, participate in opportunities for their communities to save energy and network with peer groups.

The Partnership will host applicant webinars on Tuesday, January 24 at noon and 7 p.m., and virtual Q&A forums will be held Tuesday, February 7 at noon and 7 p.m. to answer questions and help applicants with the application process.
