CT Students Recognized for Sustainable Science Fair Projects at 63rd Connecticut Science Fair

March 23, 2011

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund honored six middle school and high school finalists for their innovative science fair projects identifying sustainable processes, products and technologies to help protect the environment for future generations. More than 500 middle and high school students designed and presented science projects during the week-long Connecticut Science Fair held at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.

"The sustainable project entries submitted at this year's fair were impressive and cutting-edge ideas," said Richard W. Steeves, Energy Efficiency Board Chairperson. "From a bladeless wind turbine created by applying the principles of Nicholas Tesla to the creation of a composite clay polymer sponge for cleaning up fuel oil spills, the students showcased that ingenuity and academic talent are still in the American classroom and that tomorrow's leaders are well-equipped to handle global challenges."

Members of the Energy Efficiency Board, The Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) and The United Illuminating Company (UI) served as judges for the Sustainable Resources & Practices and Future Sustainability categories. The finalists were announced at an awards ceremony on Saturday, March 19th attended by Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy.
