Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce Recipient of the BOE Community Support Award

February 7, 2012

The Meriden Board of Education regularly recognizes our community partners at Board of Education meetings with the Community Support Award. The award strives to recognize those business partners, organizations, and individuals that have demonstrated outstanding support for our schools.

The February 2012 recipient of the Community Support Award is The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber was recognized at the February 7, 2012 Board of Education meeting. Present to accept the award for The Chamber were Yvonne de Angeli-Fontanez, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Séan W. Moore, President, and James J. Ieronimo, Chairman Chamber Education Committee.

The Chamber has been a long-standing supporter of our schools. They have worked tirelessly to bridge the working relationship between Meriden Schools and the business community. They have facilitated the partnership of several of our previous award winners and the school system. In addition, the Chamber convenes an Education Committee regularly and includes a member of the Meriden Schools on that committee. This is just one example of our close relationship with the Chamber.

Another example of the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce's support was their sponsorship of our Realtors' Breakfast last December. The Chamber assisted us in reaching out to the local real estate industry and hosting a breakfast to highlight our schools.

The last two years, the Chamber brought in the business community by having a Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce "After Hours" before our annual Transition Expo. Their sponsorship of this event was integral to the success of the Expo. It brought the business leaders together with the school system to discuss our students with disabilities and how we can collaborate especially in the area of jobs and careers.

We continue to value our close relationship with The Chamber.

The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce is just one of the many community partners the school district collaborates with regularly. The Meriden Board of Education looks forward to recognizing other community partners in the coming months.
