Meriden Board of Education Community Support Award Presented to Project Excel, Inc in November

November 7, 2011

The Meriden Board of Education recently started a new award given out at Board of Education meetings to recognize our community partners. The Community Support Award strives to recognize those business partners, organizations, and individuals that have demonstrated outstanding support for our schools.

The November 2011 recipient of the Community Support Award is Project Excel, Inc. Project Excel was recognized at the November 1, 2011 Board of Education meeting. Present to accept the award for Project Excel was Amanda Abbott, President of the organization.

Project Excel is a non-profit organization supported by the staffs of the Meriden Public Schools that has honored the achievement of Meriden's students. Project Excel holds a banquet each year to honor the top ten students from Platt High School and Maloney High School. Bonds are given to these twenty students. The district's fifth graders are honored at the Elementary Bonds Night and middle school students at a Bonds Night as well. Over $350,000 has been awarded to Meriden students over the last 28 years.

Project Excel is just one of the many community partners the school district collaborates with regularly. The Meriden Board of Education looks forward to recognizing other community partners in the coming months.
