Ion Bank Foundation Awards $2,500 Grant to Spanish Community of Wallingford

The Ion Bank Foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) for their Adelante Youth Leadership Programs. These extremely successful after school programs for Latino students in grades 7-12 provide participants with appropriate support to deal with the challenges of adolescence in immigrant families. These students, assisted in communicating with their public schools, are also coached in life skills. They are encouraged to research further education options, job opportunities, and volunteer in their community. The programs are designed to build leadership skills, improve academic performance, promote community service, and reduce risky behaviors. SCOW is located at 284 Washington St., Wallingford. Charles J. Boulier III, CEO of Ion Bank and President of the Ion Bank Foundation said, "The skills and lessons learned through these programs are an asset not only to the participating students and their families, but to the entire community."
