The Scrabble Challenge Results Are In

Thank you for joining us at the 2011 Literacy Volunteers' Scrabble Challenge! More than $10,000 was raised to support adult literacy programs in the Meriden and Wallingford communities, thanks to you, the sponsors, and all the other teams that attended.

The Scrabble competition between Meriden and Wallingford is always close. At the end of the night, the 5 highest scoring teams from Meriden:

1. Brian Daniels, Mark Benigni, Michael Rohde and Don Anderson; 2. Molly Savard, Josh Scott, Jena Scott and David Levack; 3. Tracy Hall, Stefanie Urbanski, Donna Urbanski and Jeff Remillard; 4. Shelley Chordas, Donna Mik, Erin Benham and Sue Perrone; 5. Brian Ragaini, Cindy Smitt, Joy Dutra and Bob Dutra .

Meriden edged out the 5 highest scoring teams from Wallingford : 1. Ellen Lazzara, Cherie Dominello, Jane Masson and Lori Farkash; 2. Janet Craig, Jean Kobrin, Peg Arrato and Florence Masselli; 3. Helen Huth, Marjorie Kleemann, Jeanne Kovacs and Gary Morgan; 4. Ginette Anziano, Betty Napolitano, Jan Guarino and Sal Menzo; 5. Mindy Sohcot, Pam Savenelli, Kathy Sinisgalli and Johanne Cragin.

Meriden had a total score of 3,752 while Wallingford totaled 3,192. Congratulations to Meriden Mayor Michael Rohde, who now has the Town Trophy in his office, along with bragging rights and the right to hold the Scrabble Challenge in Meriden again next year.

And congratulations to the team from Midstate Medical; Cheryl Belomizi, Tina Fabiani, Melissa Lesniak and Dawn Papallo, who took First Place in the Friends & Family category with 600 points.
