Updates from Departments of the Meriden Health & Human Services

January 7, 2015

The Senior Center is seeking a volunteer Computer Class Teacher. If you are knowledgeable about common computer applications, interested in working with seniors and available 1 or 2 mornings a week please contact Rick Liegl, Senior Center Administrator, at 203-237-0066.

Also the Senior Center has New Membership Forms available. January 5 was a very big day at the Senior Center as we have rolled out new enrollment forms for our participants and also members of our community who use our Senior Transportation Service. Along with our new enrollment forms, participants are receiving a Member Handbook which outlines our policies and procedures.

These new enrollment forms will help us update our emergency contact information for members and will give us more accurate information on the number of participants we are serving. The Handbook will help all members understand the rules of our Center. A copy of the member enrollment form and Member handbook can be found online by clicking here.

Meriden Youth Services needs Tutors! They have started a free after-school tutoring program for Meriden students. This program is so popular that we need more tutors! If you have experience tutoring in math, science, or English and would like to volunteer 1 or 2 days per month to help students please call Danielle at 203-537-4289.

Join our Smoking Cessation Program for Tobacco Free Tuesdays! Our grant-funded smoking cessation program has been extended to April 2015. We will continue to offer our drop-in smoking cessation group program Tobacco Free Tuesdays at the Health Department. This group is for both those looking to quit and for those who have quit and want to share their success and tips with others. Group meets Tuesday nights from 5:30-6:30pm at 165 Miller Street. We will also continue to offer free nicotine replacement patches and lozenges for those looking to quit. Programming is free. For more information please call Geralyn at 203-630-4003 or email her at glaut@meridenct.gov.
