Let Us Know: Does your business have staff currently trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)? Do you have an AED?

Does your business have staff currently trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)? Do you have an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), a lightweight portable electronic device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart, on site?

The City of Meriden is reapplying to maintain status as a HEARTSafe Community. This designation was first awarded to us by the Connecticut Department of Public Health in September 2008. In order to keep our status, a city the size of Meriden has to have a minimum of 15 AED sites and 75 citizens trained in CPR. You may have noticed the HEARTSafe Community signs on the side of the road in Meriden and other cities and town in Connecticut.

The Meriden Health Department is conducting a survey on the number of AED devices and number of currently certified CPR/AED individuals in the city. If your business has an AED, or has staff currently certified in CPR, please let us know by calling the Community Health Education office at (203) 630-4238 or email lcrown@ci.meriden.ct.us.
