Calling all businesses - Take Pride in Meriden! There is a new movement in Meriden - an anti-litter movement!

Take Pride Meriden is an anti-littering campaign being undertaken by a committee consisting of various city departments and organizations in Meriden. Under the leadership of Councilperson Patricia Lynes, the goal of the committee is to re-instill and revitalize citizen responsibility, ownership and pride in their communities.

One of the ways Take Pride Meriden hopes to reach this goal is by encouraging businesses to maintain the appearance of their storefronts by removing litter that may accumulate on a daily basis. This could be accomplished by employees personally picking up litter or by placing a trash bin and cigarette butt disposal container outside the store.

The regular clean-up and disposal of litter not only provides a favorable perception of businesses but can dramatically improve the appearance of the entire community. Litter begets litter - keeping storefronts clean can reduce the amount of litter that will accumulate and reduce the amount of time needed to maintain cleanliness.

Take Pride Meriden encourages Meriden businesses to keep their surrounding area clean by sweeping front walkways, alleys, and picking up trash and debris on a regular basis. No one likes the look of litter. The committee needs the help of everyone if we are to keep Meriden clean. For more information on the Take Pride Meriden campaign, please contact the Meriden Health Department at 630-4238.
