July 19, 2004

August 21st is the Mayor's official Clean-Up Day in the City of Meriden. In an effort to clean up our city and keep our neighborhoods free of litter and debris in the future, the City is encouraging all residents, especially children, to participate in the clean up process. Getting children involved will encourage neighborhood involvement and citizen education and will help to teach them to become good citizens and keep their neighborhoods clean at all times. To achieve this goal, Pat Lynes, City Council and Deputy Majority Leader, is reaching out to local businesses asking them to donate prizes for children who are nominated to the City for cleaning up their neighborhoods. To nominate a young person or to donate an item, contact Denise Keating at 630-4225.

The mayor, members of the city council and members of the community will be downtown cleaning up W. Main from Colony to Butler. (Colony from W. Main to the corner by the Cabin and the area around the Hub.) Around 12:30 we will have food, drinks and musical entertainment. Also, everyone participating will get a Mayor's Cleanup Day T-Shirt. So far we have recruited around 50 people including boy scouts and girl scouts.
