Governor John G. Rowland recently announced a forthcoming state grant for the Meriden City Center Initiative. He stated, "I can report to you with utmost confidence that on September 27 we will be appropriating $250,000 for the downtown Meriden project." These monies will finance additional planning for the initiative, and is a sign of state support not only to maintain backing for the initiative, but also to build momentum for the plan.
