Congratulations to Shane Rood on being chosen Woman of the Year by the Meriden Business and Professional Women. Unfortunately Shane has announced her resignation as executive director of the Center, where she worked for 16 years. Shane's efforts have created needed programs in rape-crisis, Head Start, WFC's job-training, OpenDOHR, a teen pregnancy program, and team-building with other agencies. City Mayor Joe Marinan first met Shane when she was deputy director of the Meriden Community action Agency. He praised her vision, leadership and creation of identity for the Center. Shane was especially proud of her development of leaders from among the Center's programs. She is also glad she separated from the national YWCA, a decision which the public has supported. She believes in her mission but needs time for other pursuits, especially leisure.
