SkillsUSA Competition Held at Wilcox Technical High School

On April 6, more than 1200 students descended upon Wilcox Technical High School to participate in the 2018 SkillsUSA Connecticut Leadership and Skills Conference. Wilcox students competed against other high schools that have Career Technical Education (CTE)programs in occupational and leadership skills, job demo, promotional bulletin board, and opening and closing of a meeting. The goal of SkillsUSA is to help prepare students for future careers by providing training in technical and professional skills.

Wilcox Technical High School was named "SkillsUSA Chapter of the Year" because of it is a very active chapter that does many community service activities as well as trains students to be well rounded individuals with technical, academic and employability skills. In addition, to being "Chapter of the Year" the following students placed:

- Student Ambassadors: Jamal Boujjaj and Haille Carroll (non-competition - advisors acknowledged their dedication to the chapter). - State Officers: Luke Johnston, Peter Leppones

3rd Place - Extemporaneous Speaking: Reese Hasankolli - Job Skills Demo A: Luke Johnston - Pin Design: Darwin Campoverde

All first place winners will be heading for the SkillsUSA National Competition which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky on June 25th though June 30th. More than 6,000 state champions will compete in a 100 different trade, technical and leadership field competitions.

Wilcox is currently doing fundraising and asking for donations to help offset the cost of sending these students to Louisville. The cost to send one student is $1388.00. Anyone wishing to make a donation to help send a student to this competition can fill out the attached donation form and send it to: H. C.
