Orderly Radames "Danny" Vazquez was named the Hospital's Employee of the Year after more than 33 years of service. The $1,000 first prize was being considered for a vacation to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary. George True was runner-up and Jean Davis was awarded the third prize. The materials management department was named MidState's Team of the Year, with the second place award going to the preoperative patient advocate team and emergency services third. The entire Hospital was recognized by the Boston-based national Sodexo/Modern Healthcare Service award for "values integration". MidState won the award for the way it has integrated the two hospitals, World War II Veterans Memorial Hospital and Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. Gary Burke, quality improvement consultant, explained that personnel had been surveyed to find core values that were mutually agreed upon. The Hospital determined three, which were respect, caring and teamwork, with six behaviors identified for each value.
