National Volunteer Week - Opportunities Galore!

It is National Volunteer Week and because of this The Volunteer Center would like to offer you the chance to make a difference through Volunteering! National Volunteer Week is a about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It's about demonstrating to the nation that by working together we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

National Volunteer Week is also a chance to celebrate Volunteers for their dedication, commitment, and collective power for evoking positive change and making a difference. We sincerely thank all those who have utilized The Volunteer Center to give back to the Meriden and Wallingford Communities!

For those seeking ways to give back, below is a list of volunteer opportunities currently available.

1. Beat the Street Community Center is looking for volunteers to assist them with the set up and maintaining the cleanliness of Hubbard Park during the Daffodil Festival on April 27th, 28th and 29th . Volunteers are needed on Friday between the hours of 5pm-7pm, Saturday between the hours of 12pm to 6pm and Sunday between the hours of 10am to 5pm. Students may volunteer to fulfill their high school community service requirements.

2. The Child Guidance Clinic is seeking a volunteer's) to assist them with the filing of their clinical charts. This is an ongoing position that requires a high degree of confidentiality. Any hours between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday will work for them and student volunteers are accepted.

3. The Meriden Boys and Girls Club is looking for a group of volunteers to help with grounds work at Camp Cuno and painting at the Club. No date has been set on this project but it should occur within the next two to 3 weeks.

4. MidState Medical Center is hosting a Volunteer Open House on Thursday April 19th at 10am-11:30pm or 4:30 to 6:30pm in the hospital's Horwitz Conference Center, Room 1. The volunteer open house gives prospective volunteers the opportunity to meet and talk with MidState Volunteers and volunteer services staff, observe volunteers in action and learn how to become part of the exciting world of health care volunteers.
