Several local companies have demonstrated their commitment to the Meriden and Wallingford communities as they generously loan employees to the United Way of Meriden and Wallingford to help with the fall fundraising campaign. During the upcoming 2005-2006 campaign, loaned executives will work with United Way's campaign leadership and staff. The loaned executives' employers absorb the individuals' salaries during their assignment to United Way, helping to keep United Way's fundraising costs at a minimum.

According to Joseph Baker, Executive Director of United Way, the program is mutually beneficial. "The area companies that participate in the program clearly show a firm commitment to United Way and the community. The loaned executives gain a better understanding of the community, and are given an opportunity to develop their organizational skills in such critically important areas as communication, salesmanship and time management."

During the campaign, the loaned executives will work with company campaign coordinators conducting employee solicitation programs throughout the community. Loaned executives participate in a summer training program to become familiar with area companies. The Loan Executive's learn about campaign techniques as well as United Way's member agencies, the fund distribution process and community planning activities. One Loaned Executive said, "We were unaware that the United Way supports agencies such as Catholic Family Services, Girls Inc., Kuhn, Literacy Volunteers and many, many more. The United Way is a great organization." Each year United Way conducts a fundraising campaign to benefit 25 local health and human service agencies that provide services to Meriden and Wallingford.

This year's Loaned Executives are Karen L. Gannon, Sales Support Manager at SNET Contact Center in Meriden & Vincent Guarniere, Operations Associate at Bristol Myers Squibb in Wallingford, CT.

United Way is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization serving Meriden and Wallingford through its twenty-five member agencies.
