The Chamber expresses deep sympathy to the family of Knowlton H. White, who passed away recently. In 1967 he purchased the candy manufacturer, and served his community in many capacities. These included the Record-Journal board, where his mother had been editor from 1949 to 1974, and his brother, Carter H. White, was the publisher from 1966 to 1988. Mr. White had told the owner, George Thompson, when they were young boys, that if ever the candy company were sold, he would be interested. The company had been founded by George's grandfather in 1879. Mr. White retired as head of the company in 1979 but remained active on its board of directors and at the Record-Journal until 1990.
