BL was chosen by the City to create a plan for the Meriden Center City Initiative. It will deliver its master plan by June 30th, so that MERG can bring it to the City for input before the next legislative session. Mr. Landino has already completed a similar plan for Torrington and municipal projects in New Haven and Winsted. As a former legislator, he is aware of how the State works when a municipality has a plan it wants to fund. He is also a professional planner and engineer. He and his wife Eve Barakos-Landino moved to Connecticut and started a firm of their own - Barakos-Landino DE-sign Group. They have designed pharmacies for Rite-Aid, built hotels for Candlewood and cinemas for Hoyts and worked on the Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets. They are also part of a team contracted to build the new multibillion-dollar sky train at JFK Airport for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Mr. Landino considers Meriden "a great home" with a tax incentive offered by the City as well as a four-year tax relief package. For two consecutive years, Inc. magazine featured BL among the fastest growing engineering firms. In 1999, the Connecticut Engineers in Private Practice named Mr. Landino Connecticut Engineer of the Year. In 2000, Engineering News-Record, the industry trade publication, named BL Companies among the top 500 firms in the nation.
